David Jernigan

Board Member

Hop On A Cure Foundation is excited to welcome David Jernigan to our Board of Directors. A nationally respected leader in education, nonprofit management, and philanthropy, David brings more than 25 years of experience advancing opportunity, strengthening organizations, and driving meaningful community impact.

David most recently served as President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, where he led 25 clubs across ten counties and helped expand access to high-quality programming for more than 7,000 children and teens each year. Previously, he served as Deputy Superintendent for Atlanta Public Schools during a period of bold transformation, contributing to significant improvements in graduation rates and college enrollment across the district. Earlier in his career, David was the Founding Executive Director of KIPP Atlanta Schools, where he helped grow the organization from two to eight schools and establish a lasting legacy of educational excellence.

David’s leadership has been recognized at the local, state, and national levels. In 2025, he was named Philanthropic Leader of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, an honor reflecting both his strategic approach to fundraising and his deep commitment to mission-driven work. He has served on numerous boards and advisory bodies and remains actively engaged in leadership development initiatives that strengthen communities and institutions.

In 2024, David was diagnosed with ALS. That experience has deepened his connection to this work and brings a personal dimension to his commitment to accelerating research and expanding hope for individuals and families facing this disease.

“David has dedicated his career to strengthening communities and creating lasting impact. His leadership, vision, and commitment to service align deeply with Hop On A Cure’s mission, and we are honored to welcome him to the Board as we continue advancing ALS research together,” shared John and Jen Hopkins, HOAC Co-Founders.

As Hop On A Cure continues to expand its research impact and accelerate progress toward effective ALS treatments, David’s expertise in strategic growth, governance, philanthropy, and lived experience will be an extraordinary asset. We are honored to welcome him to the Board and excited to have his leadership, insight, and passion helping guide the organization’s next chapter.
